Description:

A rare 1985 Ibanez Destroyer II DT555, the flagship of the Destroyer line. This high end model was only made for a few years, most recognizable as the guitar played prominently by Def Leppard's Phil Collen during the Pyromania era. Features set neck construction, bound ebony fretboard with distinctive mother-of-pearl and abalone "split block" position markers, gold hardware, solid brass "Sure Grip" control knobs, and Smooth Tuner II machine heads,  1985 models are equipped with the double-locking Pro Rock'r tremolo paired with a locking nut. This is in all original condition with the exception of a re-wound bridge pickup (rewound by Thomas Brantley).

Starting with the body, There is some light cosmetic wear including surface marks, scratches, dings, and minor finish chips. There has been some edge/corner finish touch-ups and some over-spray. Shows some buckle rash on rear as well.  Overall shows no major damage and is in great shape. Neck is in excellent shape with no notable damage or blemishes. Headstock shows some light surface marks, but is otherwise very clean. Fretboard and inlays remain very clean with no notable wear or damage. Frets have been professionally leveled, crowned, and polished by our luthier and feel almost brand new! Hardware shows some very light aging/wear, but is all in excellent working order. Electronics have been thoroughly inpsected and cleaned and are all working perfectly. Original humbuckers remain in great shape, with the bridge pickup having been professionally rewound by Thomas Brantley. This Destroyer II is top notch in looks and quality, and is in great shape, plays incredibly well, and is just plain badass!

The guitar features a three humbucker configuration utilizing high-output Ibanez V2 pickups. Rather than a standard five-way switch, Ibanez engineered a unique blending circuit to maximize tonal variations:
  • 3-Way Toggle Switch: Selects only between the outside pickups (Neck / Both / Bridge).
  • Knob 1 (Master Volume): Controls the overall volume of the neck and bridge pickups.
  • Knob 2 (Center Blend Volume): Allows the player to independently blend the middle humbucker into any combination selected by the 3-way toggle.
  • Knob 3 (Master Tone): A single master tone control governing all three pickups.

Because it was only manufactured for a brief three-year window, the DT555 remains a highly sought-after piece of 1980s hair-metal history. Many surviving DT555s have been heavily modified over the years—such as routing for Kahler or Floyd Rose tremolos and changing the pickups—so un-altered, 100% factory-original examples have become tough to find.
