Wren and Cuff XTS Fade Font ’94
Maker: Wren and Cuff
Model: Fade Font '94
Condition: New
Description:
The Fade Font ’94™ has earned its place in the Wren and Cuff lineup as the louder, more
aggressive sibling to the Tall Font Russian. Based on one of Matt’s favorite vintage Sovtek-era
Big Muff® pedals from 1994, it captures a very different side of the Sovtek® sound, with a
character distinctly different from its lower-gain sibling.
The original pedal stood apart from other versions of the era, with a collection of unusual
component values that differed from earlier models. Add decades of component drift and the
loose tolerances common to the originals, and you get a pedal with a character all its own.
Recreating that sound took nearly two years of revisions, experimentation, and careful
measurement.
The result was the full size Fade Font ’94: higher gain, more aggressive, and full of that
unmistakable papery Sovtek-era grit, with a commanding, focused low end that works
beautifully on both guitar and bass.
The XTS version of the Fade Font ’94 takes that same voice and packs it into a ridiculously
small footprint. It gets remarkably close to the full-size version in tone and feel, though a few of
the unique parts used in the Full Size Fade Font ’94 simply could not be carried over into a
package this small. For the most exact recreation of Matt’s original 1994 pedal, the full-size
version remains the one to beat, however, the XTS Fade Font ‘94 will get you very close to that
same glorious tone.
Did we follow the route some have taken and reduce the quality and reliability along with the
size when creating a micro-pedal? Hell no.
This pedal is built to the same high standards of quality and reliability as every other pedal in the
Wren and Cuff line, and it is every bit as ready for the road.
