From the web:

The 1997 Ernie Ball Music Man Axis EX is a highly collectible, Japanese-assembled electric guitar built right after the conclusion of Eddie Van Halen's official endorsement deal with Ernie Ball Music Man. It is famous among players for being essentially identical in feel and tone to the original USA-made EVH Signature models, as early 1997 versions utilized leftover, American-made components shipped to Japan.

  • Body Wood: Solid basswood core with a cream-bound, highly figured quilted maple top.
  • Neck Wood: Select birdseye or flame maple with an asymmetrical C-profile, finished by hand with gunstock oil and a special wax blend.
  • Pickups: Dual custom-wound DiMarzio humbuckers mounted directly to the body cavity for maximum resonance.
  • Bridge System: Non-recessed double-locking Gotoh/Music Man tremolo system designed to lower pitch only.
  • Controls & Electronics: Single 500k CTS master volume pot matched to a 3-way toggle pickup selector switch.
  • Hardware & Scale: 25.5" scale length, 10" fretboard radius, 22 medium frets, and Schaller M6LA tuners.
Assembly Location: Crafted in Japan by the Kanda Shokai plant using USA-imported wood, electronics, and hardware.
Headstock Logo: Lacks the iconic "Eddie Van Halen" handwritten signature graphic and omits the California manufacturing stamps.
Toggle Placement: The 3-way pickup selector switch on the Axis EX is relocated to the lower body cutaway rather than positioned near the volume pot
