1979 Music Man Sabre II Leo Fender all original rare factory passive model
Maker: Music Man
Model: Sabre II
Condition: Very Good
Description:
Here for your consideration is a 1979 Music Man Sabre II in very good condition! This one is a very interesting piece. All of the standard Sabre II models features active circuitry while this one is completely passive with electronics that match those of some later G&L models. Normally we would think that someone had gutted the electronics and modified it, but with the typical Sabre II's you would see a 9v battery compartment on the back of the body while this one does not have one. Also, the potentiometers all date to 1979. We thought maybe it was a custom order, but custom orders did not exist at the time for Music Man. We've searched high and low for some information that could explain what the deal is with this one and our most logical conclusion is that this could have been a one off that an employee built for themselves. Not entirely sure, but we are sure that this one plays great and sounds fantastic with lots of tonal versatility. This one is overall in very good condition. Body shows some very minor surface marks and dings, and a good amount of checking in the finish, but is otherwise in great shape. Neck shows some very light surface marks and some finish checking as well but is overall in very good condition with no major damage or blemishes. Headstock shows some light marks and checking but is otherwise very clean. Fretboard shows a fair amount of finish checking particularly near the frets, but overall is in great shape. Frets show some light wear but have no major divots, buzz, or dead spots. Hardware shows some light age and wear that you would expect from a nearly 50 year old guitar, but is overall in great shape. Electronics have been thoroughly inspected and cleaned and work perfectly. The configuration is the same as some later G&L models, with a 3 way pickup selector, master volume and tone controls, a bass roll off control, with coil-split and out of phase switches. Features the original music man humbuckers that sound amazing! A truly unique, possibly even one of one Music Man that plays and sounds great! Has been fully inspected and set up by our tech and ready for a new home. Includes non- original Fender padded gig bag.
